Proposed Female Orphans National Secondary School
BACKGROUND
As part of its advocacy efforts for the improvement of education especially for the girl-child
in Nigeria, Azzawaj Women & Children Intervention Centre, is taking the bold step to
establish an all-female orphans national secondary school – the first of its kind in Nigeria,
which is to be located in Maitama II, Abuja.
The proposed school is conceived to be a modern learning institution for girls. It is shaped by
its guiding vision of being an international training and reference Centre for girls’
development with overall goal of providing free quality education that gives beneficiaries a reasonable start in life.
Objectives of the proposed school
1. To promote girl-child education.
2. To support efforts aimed at minimizing the menace of out-of-school children
(prostitution, hawking, early girl-child marriage, and other vices).
3. To equip young girls with knowledge and skills to make them globally competitive
while still imbibing traditional and cultural values.
4. Encourage the acquisition of skills and vocational training.
5. To equip girls with essential life-skills to participate effectively in the development of
the society.
6. To encourage the culture of fostering which is largely lacking in Nigeria.

Admission
Admission into the school shall be by entrance examination and open to poor female orphans
(age 10-19years) from across all states of the federation regardless of religion, state of origin, ethnicity, and creed.
School Population
Intake: 50 students per session and maximum of 300 students when all classes are fully operational.
Guiding philosophy
The school shall pursue academic excellence, moral rectitude and shall be a strong advocate and promoter of the culture of fostering and adoption. It shall major on skills empowerment and development, and offer extra curricula activities that provide learners with a balance between academic work and leisure. In addition, community and humanitarian services shall form part of the programmes of the school to equip learners with the right skills that respond to the needs
of local communities and society at large.

Description
Some of the key infrastructures for the school are described below:
A. Administrative Block
A 3-floor administrative block shall accommodate both academic and administrative
functions. Other facilities to be accommodated in this block include:-

B. Hostel Block: A 300-bed hostel with chaperone rooms.
C. Dining Hall: A 300-350 sitting capacity dining hall with kitchens, stores, staff
offices, and staff and VIP dining areas.
D. Girls Development Centre (GDC): GDC shall accommodate vocational training and
skill acquisition facilities for girls.
E. Family Value Centre (FVC): conceived to be a resource centre for research on
family and related issues. Facilities at the Centre shall include:
– 2 Study rooms all ensuite
– 1 room space offices
– Mini Library to accommodate 10-15 persons per time
– One meeting room to also serve as board room.

Infrastructural Development
Development of infrastructure in the school shall be in phases:
Phase I: Administrative block, Hostels, Dining hall, Staff quarters, Sports
Complex, Worship Centres, and School Shop.
Phase II: Classroom block, Girls Development Centre, and Family Value Centre.
Phase III: Multipurpose Hall, Guest Quarters, Founder’s Lodge, and Clinic.
Funding
Funding for the school shall come from donations/grants/endowments from public spirited individuals as well as from local and international organizations. Funds shall also be sourced from proceeds of school activities and ventures.
Sustainability
Besides grants and donations, endowments, the school shall engage in income generating
activities to fund its operations.
