Our Interventions and Activities so far
- Under its Humanitarian and Emergency Response Programme, Azzawaj undertook its first intervention by distributing relief materials to 420 vulnerable persons including women and children in Mabushi village (AMAC) and Tungan Maje (Gwagwalada Area Council) all in the FCT in Nov. 2017.
- Commenced its Social and Economic Empowerment Programme (SEEP) in Nov. 2017, with the first phase disbursement of interest free revolving loans to 52 indigent women in Tungan Maje, Mabushi village and Kiyi (Kuje Area Council).
- Conducted a WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) assessment exercise (March 20-23 March, 2018) in Tungan Maje and Yangoji (Kwali Area Council) in FCT.
- Disbursed revolving micro loans to 60 women in Tungan Maje under the second batch of SEEP in April 2018.
- Commenced an annual Ramadan Charity outreach to cater to indigent Muslim brethren in the FCT in June 16 -17, 2018.
- Awarded scholarship to 10 indigent orphans in the FCT in Oct., 2018, for their secondary education under its EduVest Scholar programme.
- Conducted a Malaria Reduction Project in selected communities in FCT with support from the National Malaria Elimination Programme office between Oct., 18 and 20, 2018. Over 776 persons across the selected communities benefitted from the programme.
- Disbursed revolving micro loans to 65 women in Tungan Maje under the third batch of SEEP on 4th, 2018.
- Commenced an annual Christmas Charity outreach to cater to 170 indigent Christian brethren in the FCT on 21st, 2018. Beneficiaries were children, women and persons living with disabilities.
- January 2019, advocacy visit to the Emir of Kano, HRH Muhammad Sanusi II, CON, on girl child education and proposed Female Orphan Secondary School in Abuja.
- Conducted an Easter Charity Outreach to cater to 235 indigent Christian brethren in selected locations in FCT in April, 2019. Beneficiaries were children, women and persons living with disabilities.
- Conducted a Ramadan Charity Outreach to cater to 296 indigent Muslim brethren in selected communities of FCT in May, 2019. Beneficiaries included Women, girls, orphans, the elderly, and the physically challenged in Mabushi , Tungan Maje and Alheri Leprosy Settlement at Yangoji.
- Disbursed revolving loans to 54 women-owned micro businesses in Tungan Maje under batch 4 of the first phase of SEEP in May, 2019.
- Commenced the Second phase of SEEP in May, 2019, with the disbursement of revolving loans to 25 women-owned micro businesses in Tungan Maje.
- Disbursed revolving loans to 15 women-owned micro businesses in Tungan Maje under batch 5 of the first phase of SEEP in Nov., 2019.
- Disbursed revolving loans to 5 women-owned micro businesses in Tungan Maje under batch II of the second phase of SEEP in Nov., 2019.
- Awarded scholarship to ten (10) orphans in Tungan Maje, FCT, in Nov., 2019, for their secondary education under the EduVest Scholar programme.
- Conducted Christmas Charity Outreach in Dec., 2019, to Mabushi village Anawim Home in Kwali Area Council of the FCT during which foodstuffs, clothes, toys, were donated to 139 persons including orphans, women, children, and persons living with disabilities that benefitted.
- Participated at a Civil Society engagement retreat on 30th, 2020, in Abuja, FCT, and organized by the OOSAP-SDGs in collaboration with EU.
- In Feb., 2020, Azzawaj commenced activities for the take-off of Women Empowerment Project with Arya Nigeria, for women-owned small businesses in Northern Nigeria starting with the FCT. The overall aim of the project is to enhance the capacity of women-led businesses at the grassroots by supporting initiatives that engender entrepreneurship, financial inclusion and enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
- Conducted a free eye medical outreach for selected indigent elderly aged 50years and above living in Kwali, Gwagwalada and AMAC. Free eye tests, minor treatment and glasses were given to beneficiaries. The Outreach was conducted in unction with The Pause Old People’s Home.
- Humanitarian and Emergency Response Programme, Azzawaj was selected as focal NGO by the Fed. Min. of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (FMHADMSD) and the FCTA for the distribution of COVID-19 palliatives for the FCT in April 2020.
- In May, 2020, distributed raw food packs each worth ₦4,000 as COVD-19 palliatives to 300 vulnerable households in Ungwan Makera, Ungwan Hausawa and Ungwan Gade, all in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT. Total worth of the intervention was ₦1,200,000. The programme was supported by WIMBIZ.
- Distributed cash and wrappers to 25 indigent women in Tungan Maje community as part of its COVID-19 interventions in May, 2020. Total worth of intervention was ₦175,000. The programme was supported by Nasira Charity Foundation.
- Distributed bags of rice worth ₦750,000 to 50 vulnerable households in Utako village, Mabushi village, Dutse, Gwangara, Gui, and Iddo Sarki, as part of its COVID-19 interventions in June 2020. The programme was supported by the Fed. Min. of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (FMHADMSD).
- Distributed raw food packs worth ₦275,000 to 52 vulnerable households in Nyanya, Gwabere, Tungan Maje, Aleyita, Pyakasa, and Utako village, as part of its COVID-19 interventions in July 2020. The programme was supported by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
- Conducted Christmas Charity Outreach in Dec., 2020, to Mabushi village Anawim Home, FCT during which foodstuff, diapers, wrappers were distributed to OVC and young girls. Total worth of activity was ₦268,000.
- Distributed various cash support worth ₦800,000 as zakat to 25 indigent Muslim brethren in selected communities of FCT in April, 2021. Beneficiaries included orphans, widows and PLWDs. Activity was supported by Jaiz Charity & Development Foundation.
- Distributed zakat in form of cash worth ₦800,000 to 25 indigent Muslim brethren in the FCT on 5th August, 2021. Activity was supported by Jaiz Charity & Development Foundation.
- Opened its North east regional office in Maiduguri, Borno State, on 25th March, 2022, as part of its expansion efforts at reaching the less privileged in northern Nigeria.
- Registered as a member of Network of Civil Society Against Child Trafficking, Abuse & Labour (NACTAL), FCT chapter in April, 2022. Membership is intended to further Azzawaj’s efforts on child abuse, trafficking and education.
- Undertook extensive advocacy visits to various stakeholders in the education sector including the FCT Education Secretariat, Federal Ministry of Education, and Federal Ministry of Women Affairs between June 17-26, 2022, to drive support for girl-child education as well as the proposed female orphans’ secondary school being promoted by Azzawaj.
- Served as facilitator at a ‘Week of Action’ awareness campaign on Child Rights Act to GSS Gosa, Abuja on June 9th, 2022, to sensitize students on their rights. Over 250 children participated at the event.
- July 6, 2022, activation of Empowerment and Investment Scheme (EMPIS) in partnership with ARYA Nigeria. EMPIS is targeted at growing women-owned small businesses in rural communities.
- Conducted a sensitization/awareness campaign under the theme: “The Role of Technology as a tool that can both enable and impede Human Trafficking and the Vulnerability of Women and Children and the Risk of Internally Displaced Persons to Human Trafficking.” Campaign was taken to selected schools and IDP camps in Maiduguri, Borno State. This activity held on 3rd August, 2022, in commemoration of the 2022 World Day against Human Trafficking.
- Participated at a one-day awareness campaign in Abuja on human trafficking organized by NAPTIP on 3rd August, 2022.
- Undertook an advocacy campaign on sanitation and hygiene under the theme: “Project Tsabtar Jiki” on 19th November, 2022. The project targeted girls in selected secondary schools in Borno state and was in commemoration of the World Toilet Day on 19 November, 2022.
- Participated at a workshop on Sensitization/Awareness Exercise on Non-state Armed Groups (NSAGs) and Exploitation of Juveniles into Armed and Ideological Groups which Organized by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development on 10 January, 2023 at the Nigeria Army Resource Centre, Mambilla Barracks, Asokoro, Abuja.
- Served as a facilitator at a ‘Week of Action’ sensitization and awareness campaign on Child Labour with theme: ‘Social Justice for All’ to the Nigeria Police Force in commemoration of the 2023 World Day against Child Labour. This activity was organized by NACTAL FCT, and held on 7 July, 2023, at Utako Divisional Police Headquarters, Utako, Abuja.
- Participated at a one-day sensitization/awareness campaign on human trafficking under the theme: “Reach Every Victim of Trafficking, Leave No One Behind”. This activity was organized by NACTAL FCT, and held on 29 July, 2023, at Jabi Motor Park, Utako, in commemoration of 2023 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
- Distributed zakat in form of cash worth ₦800,000 to 17 orphans in FCT for their secondary education for 2023/24 academic session on Saturday, 2, September, 2023. Activity was supported by Jaiz Charity & Development Foundation and held at the Women Development Centre, Abuja.
