AWIC partners Jaiz Foundation to provide scholarship to orphans in FCT

Azzawaj Women & Children Intervention Centre (AWIC), in partnership with Jaiz Charity & Development Foundation, recently disbursed Zakat worth ₦32,036,179.59 to over 889 Muslim brethren in the FCT to complete the cycle of Zakat distribution for the year, 2023. AWIC is one of the implementing organizations for the Jaiz Foundation Zakat programme.
For this cycle, AWIC received the sum of ₦800,000 from the Zakat fund which it distributed as scholarship support to 17 orphans in the FCT for their secondary education. The beneficiaries were split into two, a set of orphans received ₦70,000 each, while the other received ₦21,000 each.
The distribution ceremony which held at the Maryam Babangida Centre for Women Development, Abuja, witnessed a gathering of dignitaries, organizations and beneficiaries alike.
In his welcome remarks, the Executive Secretary, Jaiz Charity & Development Foundation, Dr. Abdullahi Shuaib, stated that the Foundation was established to alleviate poverty, improve the living conditions of the underprivileged, facilitate access to qualitative education, provide medical assistance, as well as provide access to Islamic social finance funds such as zakat, Qard al-Hassan, sadaqah and waqf.
While acknowledging the current difficulties and hardship in the country, Imam Shuaib stated that as the third pillar of Islam and one of the instruments of the Islamic social finance, Zakat is meant to mitigate the challenges of poverty and deprivation faced by the vulnerable, orphans and widows in the country. He congratulated the selected recipients of the Zakat this year, imploring them to utilize the items and funds provided effectively and efficiently. .
Dr Shuaib applauded the efforts of the implementing organizations that have continued to assist Jaiz Foundation in actualizing the objectives of the Zakat programme.
